Being Resilient

What does being resilient mean to me? To me being resilient means never giving up when things get difficult or you feel like you can't do any more or get any better. Resilience to me is all about staying positive to get through even the hard times.

Last week my hub went on a mountain biking trip, unfortunately I was unable to go on this trip as there is only a couple of weeks before my dance concert and I didn't want to risk any injury before that. Although, if I had gone on the trip, it definitely would of been something that would have pushed me as mountain biking isn't really my thing.

Strategies to achieve my goals

At the beginning of this semester I set myself some new academic and habit goals which I am going to work towards achieving throughout the semester. My academic goals included, achieving at least Merit for all of my classes. My habit goal was to be more curious by extending myself in my learning.

For my academic goal, a strategy I will use to achieve this will be asking my teachers for feedback on how im going and also how I can improve my work. This will also help me with my habit goal that I am working towards.

For my habit goal, a way to be more curious would be to ask more questions, to extend myself. Whether that be asking my teachers, or asking myself with whatever I am learning, why things are the way they are, or how does this relate to me etc.

My goals - Semester 2

After reflecting back on my goals from last semester I decided to keep some the same but also change some. For my academic goal, I have decided to keep that goal the same which was, to at least achieve at merit for my NCEA. Although this is my goal that won't stop me from aiming for excellence.

As for my Habit goal, last semester it was to be more purposeful. This semester I have chosen to change this as I feel I had achieved that goal and will carry on with this anyways. I have decided that something I need to work on is being more curious, which means working on extending myself in my learning and asking more questions to extend my knowledge.

How am I going to be Adventurous today?

Today I am going to be adventurous by extending myself on the work which I have already completed to make it better and the best it can be. I will do this in all classes I have today.

My goals - mid year update

It is already near the end of semester 1, and I have had a look back on the goals I set at the beginning of the semester to see how I have been going in regards to achieving these. I set myself some habit goals along with academic. These were the goals I set:

Habit Goal:
One of my habit goals at the moment is to be more Purposeful - In class I sometimes get distracted and end up having to finish off my work at home. So being more purposeful with my time in class is something that I want to work on.

Academic Goal:
One academic goal for me is to achieve at an extended abstract/excellence level for my PE/Health class, I would also like to achieve at excellence level 2 for dance. As for the class I really struggle with I would like to achieve at at least Merit.

So far this semester I felt I have done well at achieving my habit goal in the majority of my classes. I feel I could have done better in terms of staying focused and not getting distracted as easily, but I have always met deadlines and completed my work. Although I think this will always be a goal I need to work on.

As for my academic goal, I am really happy and proud of myself because I did achieve at excellence for my Health and PE. As for my Moonshot class which I have always struggled with, I only achieved and didn't get the merit I was hoping for. For dance I am feeling very confident with my choreographed dance which I will be performing for my assessment. I am really hoping for that excellence grade but I feel I should at least achieve at a merit otherwise.

Who's a hero to me?

Someone who is a hero for me is my dance teacher Tania. She has been teaching me since I was 3 years old, she has always pushed me to do better than I ever thought I could do. She always boosts my self confidence when I feel I can't do something. She is one of my biggest inspirations and she has inspired me to keep on dancing!

What risk have I taken and did it pay off?

This morning in hub, we were asked what a recent risk was we had taken and if it paid off.
The other day in dance class, I took a risk by trying out a completely new dance move without knowing exactly how to do it, this is never the best thing to do in dance as you could get seriously injured if you don't know the exact technique in how to do the move. Despite this I gave it my best shot and the outcome was great! I now have a taught myself a new move which I can use in future dances.

There's nothing bad in taking a risk! :)
